My Cheatin' Heart

So, my dears, i have a confession to make. I've been leading a double cyber life. By day i'm the thoughtful blogger who grapples with the deep issues of her life. But by night I'm a frivolous, shallow flickrer. I started flickr just before we got the news about my husband's polycythemia, and then, through the stress of that time flickr was a wonderful escape - a place where I could find the humor, fun, and beauty that was so sorely lacking in my life at the time. To my surprise, I also got to know a number of my fellow flickerers, and they've become important cyber friends.

So I've decided to put my two cyber worlds together, and introduce you lovely people to my other lovely people. So any of you who feel like it, jump on over to my flickr file HERE.

On it you'll see my collection of oddities such as this photo from the Mime Alphabet Book:

Or, more recently, this peculiar 1959 ad for Hanes:

You'll meet a lot of smart, funny people who make you, quite literally, laugh out loud with their brilliantly silly remarks. Hope to see you all at my other cyber home.

Tomorrow: Favorite Flickr funsters (a phrase I ripped off shamelessly and without permission from one of my favorite flickr funsters who inhabits this dimension as A Thousand Shades of Twilight.)

Elizabeth,
You are soooo totally cool.
Well, there's cheating, and there's cheating isn't there. You didn't have an affair -like someone else we are hearing about today, - Your cheating just comes with morebetter entertainment, not disappointment and some serious bad feelings. I miss you too much. XXXOOO

ohgod, like I need another online distraction. I can barely keep up with this one lately.

If only it was that easy to have 2 lovers, bring them together, and have everyone be happy for you in real life ...

PS: Your pic of the Keith Green album? Used to be one of my favorites back in my religious days. I still remember the words to the title track...

No way! So what's with the "You wanna go back to Egypt" thing? What on Earth does it mean?

Love the thrift store finds- I've been a thrift store adduct for years now.

You learn so much about a civilization by visiting its discards...

E: It's a tongue-in-cheek song, written about Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. It's about how his followers eventually began to doubt (getting bored eating manna, wondering what's the problem with one little idol, thinking Moses was acting like a big shot, etc.). The song is asking them if they'd rather be back in Egypt in bondage, than trusting Moses to lead them to the promised land. It's actually kind of funny. ("So you wanna go back to Egypt, where it's warm and secure ... Are you sorry you bought the one way ticket when you thought you were sure...)

Green was really straight forward in his songs, and he couldn't stand Christian hypocrisy. He died in plane crash when he was still pretty young, leaving a wife and I think 2 (3?) kids.

Obviously, he really had an effect on my former zealotry.

Eliz, darling, what's mine is yours!:) I, for one, am glad of your cheatin' ways, otherwise we may not have met. I also like that we are getting a sort of cross-pollination thing going on here, with More Cowbell shedding light on the mysterious Keith Green, whose album cover certainly stands out among the wholesome plaid-clad numerically challenged families...

Yeah ... who knew my former zealotry would end up as fodder for a blog discussion all these many years later? And I didn't even mention his "Sheep and the Goats" song.

Your cheatin' heart
Will Tell on you...

Sing it gang!
