Why I love the internet

Today, because my youngest is home sick (again) with possible mono, I wasted spent more time than usual on the interwebs. And here's what I learned. "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner," by that famous stoner Samuel Taylor Coleridge, can be sung to the tune of the "Gilligan's Island" theme song! Oh, if only I'd known this in college!

Sooooo try it! You'll be glad you did. (And people say poetry is boring.)

(From "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner")

Water, water, everywhere
And all the boards did shrink;
Water, water, everywhere
Not any drop to drink.

The very deep did rot: Oh Christ!
That ever this should be!
Yea, slimy things did crawl with legs
Upon the slimy sea.

.......

Ah! Wel-a-day! What evil looks
Had I from old and young!
Instead of the cross, the albatross
About my neck was hung.

And really, how much better would that ship have been with a Ginger, right?
She'd have made a boa out of the albatross.

(and I do hope your youngest is doing all right!)

Coleridge meets Maynard G. Krebs! I could almost see them sharing a friendly pipe together...

Why didn't I think of that? Next stop: Syncing The Wizard of Oz with Dark Side of the Moon - apparently it works. If you're really stoned!

Love it!!!!

Here's my favorite thing I learned in college: You can sing every emily Dickinson poem to the tune of "The Yellow Rose of Texas." "Because I could not stop for death/ He Kindly stopped for me..."

Thanks for the laugh, dear Elizabeth!

Thanks all! And I am now going to try and sing "Paradise lost" to the tune of "The Dick Van Dyke Show."

Much of Emily Dickinson's poetry can also be read to the tune of the Gilligan's Island, too! Try it some time...
