I was driving my very artsy (guitar-playing, picture-painting) twins to meet a friend yesterday. So I was surprised to hear R. say from the back seat, "I like science."
"That's great!" I said with WAY too much enthusiasm. "There need to be more women in the sciences!"
"Um... no, Mom. Scions. I like those cars, the Toyota Scions."
Unspoken: Oh Mom, you're such a dork.

This translates well. The girl, the age, the comment, the unspoken thought. Perfect.
you should be flattered there wasn't a 'snort' along with the reply...
Fabulous post! Kids and words--I wrote about that topic tonight, only about some first words. Stop by for a visit!
Ha ha..that is cute. I like Scions too.
That was a good read. Does Reader's Digest still have those life story contests? Hey, don't scoff. Published is published.
Utah - Thanks.
Kathleen - I just did. What a hoot!
sage - And science! So you could be a Scion-driving scion of science.
Pyzahn- I never scoff at anything about getting published!
well, in your defense, there need to be more women in Scions too, I think.
Happens to me often but then again, I am a bit hearing impaired. I hate it though when they laugh at something I mistook and don't share with me what they were talking about. I'd like to laugh too. Mean children!
What's a scion? And I can just imagine the laughter that question would engender.
Granny - They didn't need to. It was totally implied.
Jason - Yeah! That's what I meant!!!
Dolores - Honestly, I was the first one to laugh at myself. I always figure that if I laugh first, everyone else is laughing with me, not at me~
Willym - Oh, they would have thought I had fallen in the abyss of utter loserness. Though it would have been so funny that I wish I'd thought of it!
HA! Perfect. I love kid quotes. They keep you laughing.
At myself mainly!
